Anyone can give you a list of the top runway extravaganzas around the world not to miss—and certainly, the New York, Paris, London and Milan fashion weeks are true couture gems—but there’s so much more to the fashion world to take in than just the seasonal shows.

From art shows in the cosmopolitan Miami to award shows on the shores of France, these are five must-see fashion events that you have to see to believe.

Art Basel art basel

Billed as the premier event for the art world since 1970, Art Basel proves it’s a no-brainer that great fashion will follow wherever the international art scene convenes. With three world fairs all over the world—Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Basel all have their own events—this international fair attracts everyone from movie stars to magazine editors, who, of course, are wearing the latest and greatest in fashion.

In a place where Valentino and Jeremy Scott hold court with lavish parties, and supermodel Constance Jablonski mixes with basketball star and fashion-forward Amar’e Stoudemire, there’s always more than one Instagram account from Art Basel to fawn over for its style.

Festival de Cannes cannes

Paris is the height of the couture world, and Cannes is the height of film prestige, so when it comes to combining the two, magic is made. From Princess Diana’s stunning and iconic blue gown to the ’90s grunge couple extraordinaire Johnny and Kate (and her LBD), Cannes is proof that wherever beautiful and talented people go, fashion follows.

With such greats from 2016 like Blake Lively’s blue Versace draped masterpiece and Naomi Watts’ Armani Prive lavender embellished sheath dress, the red carpet in this Nice beach town is always full of the latest from the runways. So even if you are the unaccredited, a stay in the beautiful south of France during the festival is sure to be a couture-studded event.

Coachella coachella fashion

Fashion hasn’t been so influenced by a music festival since Woodstock, especially teen culture. From the lawns of the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, to the pages of Teen Vogue, superstars from the music scene and the fashion pages grace the four-day fest in droves and ultimately end up influencing the catalogs of fashion brands like Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and Free People for seasons to come.

Every magazine sports the best of the bohemian-clad glitterati, and it’s the varied reports from models of the moment Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner and actress Kate Bosworth that show there’s a plethora of style inspiration to steal from.

The Met Gala

Anna Wintour’s annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is so famous it gets its own multiple-page spread in every fashion magazine come May. It even has its own documentary, “The First Monday in May” by esteemed director Andrew Rossi. Celebrating the annual spring exhibition by the Costume Institute, the Met Gala brings fashion people from all over the world together in one room, and it is certainly an event not to miss.

Andre Leon Talley, Vogue’s editor-at-large, calls it “the Super Bowl of social fashion events.” And like the Super Bowl’s commercials, it’s the exhibition’s theme each year that keeps the public so entertained and clamoring for more. 2016’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, brought Claire Danes and Zayn Malik to the forefront of the fashion world, Danes for her Zac Posen illuminated dress and Malik for his armor-inspired tuxedo.

With the 2016 Wimbledon season, it’s become more and more obvious that the style gurus are watching out for everyone catching a match at the All-England Club. From Bradley Cooper’s sharp suits to the perfect ensembles of Her Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, the eyes are as much on the matches between the athletes as they are on the tournament viewers.

Whether it’s the unspoken dress code of Wimbledon or just the opportunity to show off, Wimbledon attendees don Ralph Lauren, Valentino, and U.K. favorite, Burberry, to make a style statement that’s more than just about spectating at the oldest tennis tournament in the world.

From sports tournaments to music extravaganzas, it’s obvious that fashion doesn’t stick to one corner of culture, so celebrate it all by attending these cross-genre events that bring together the beautiful, the talented and the well-dressed.
