How do you maintain a natural beauty routine while on the road? You try to remember to pack everything, but you end up forgetting an essential product in the end.

Instead of lugging around a bunch of beauty care products, there are quick items you can make while traveling or before you go on vacation. Many of these items will be found in your cabinet, or in your cooler, and have multiple uses: pexels-photo-68563-large

Hack Your Hair Care pexels-photo-26980-large

Sometimes you need to get up and go. Washing your hair every day isn’t healthy for it, since you’re stripping the natural sebum from your hair, not letting it do what it’s supposed to do. Give your hair a day between washes and a fresh look with these hacks:

Use a boar bristle brush.

Grandma was onto something when she encouraged you to brush your hair 100 times a day. However, even if you do exactly what she told you, you may not see the results you want since it is important to use the right kind of brush — especially while traveling and being away from your normal beauty products!

The boar bristle brush is a simple tool with many hair care benefits. It’s more gentle on your scalp and evenly distributes your natural sebum down the length of your hair. Your scalp is stimulated to encourage proper blood circulation and hair growth. Your sebum is moved throughout your hair to condition and nurture it.

Use dry shampoopexels-photo-large

When your hair has to look good and clean quickly, all you need to do is dust a little cornstarch near your crown. Fluff your hair to spread it, and brush out your hair to absorb excess sebum.

If you use too much dry shampoo, you’ll end up looking like you’re wearing a powdered wig. If you have darker hair, try mixing the cornstarch with organic cocoa powder until you get the right ratio. Add a few drops of an essential oil for a lovely smell and to boost your hair care.

Use honey as a conditioner.

Forget your conditioner? Check the cabinets for an alternative. Honey has amazing hair care properties, including strengthening your hair follicles and providing a healthy sheen.

Dilute a half a teaspoon of honey for shoulder length hair within a 1-2 cups of hot water. Stir so that the honey is diluted and let the mixture come to room temperature.

Adjust proportions for longer hair or for hair that may be prone to being oily. This recipe is a good alternative for co-washing. Use this conditioner below your crown for the best results. Pour it over your head, the sink or the shower and massage your hair like you would normally. Then all you need to do is rinse and brush out your hair!

Cucumber slices soothe tired eyes.

Making sandwiches on your road trip? Include sliced cucumbers for a happy stomach and alert eyes.

Relax and place one cucumber slice on each eye. Cucumber slices aren’t just for appearances at the spa—They reduce eye puffiness from stress and a bad night’s sleep. Needless to say, don’t drive while wearing these.

Exfoliate with sugar. scrub-548198_960_720

Make an excellent sugar scrub before you go on your trip or while on the road. Have a few packets of your preferred sugar? Mix the sugar with the coconut oil or olive oil until you have the consistency you desire. Apply and massage in circular motions. Rinse.

Dewy Beauty Make-up Hacks

What if your lip gloss were truly edible? lip scrub

Make this quick lip gloss with Kool-aid. All you need is petroleum jelly, Kool-aid drink crystals in a preferred lip color, two packets of sweeteners and lip gloss containers. This recipe is made in the microwave, and the extra containers make fun presents for friends.

A little coconut oil accentuates your natural beauty.pexels-photo-89911-large

Coconut oil is a multi-use beauty product. Use it to remove old make up by itself or by mixing coconut oil with sugar for a multi-use scrub.

It’s also great to moisturize your cuticles and hands, use a massage oil, help heal sun burns, and tame fly away hair strands. Apply a little coconut oil to your lips and over your cheekbones for a sun-kissed look on dry-skin days.

Beauty doesn’t require an arsenal of supplies. You’re the essential ingredient, but a few natural supplies that make for quick hacks can be a life-saver when you need to look your best.

Sometimes, all you need is the right hair brush, a little coconut oil and a smile.

  1. I’m a huge supporter of natural beauty products – coconut oil and I go waaay back, haha.

Using corn starch instead of paying for an overpriced dry shampoo is a great hack.

I will definitely be sharing this list with my best friend who is constantly on the road. :)
