9 Effective Tips to Help You Unplug and Relax Your Mind

May 19, 2021 , In: Wellness , With: No Comments

These days, it’s common to see people who are glued to their devices.

While it seems like a good thing, hypoconnectivity can lead to information overload and unnecessary stress. As such, you will need to do some digital detox.

In this post, we will share nine practical tips to help you unplug and relax your mind.

Surround Yourself with Nature

An excellent way to relax your mind and unplug is simply changing your surroundings.

As much as possible, go to a place where there is not Wi-Fi and mobile data is hard to come by. That way, you have no choice but to pay attention to your surroundings.

An excellent way to do that is to go hiking. You can also take a short 10-minute walk so you can stay away from your gadget.

If you can’t leave or go someplace far to allow yourself to relax your mind, you can always center yourself by learning how to meditate.

Meditation is becoming increasingly popular because of how it helps you create a tranquil atmosphere. You don’t need anything else to be able to meditate. It would be best if you learned how to get it started and how to keep it going.

Of course, it will be a foreign concept at first when you haven’t started it yet. However, the more you get used to it and the more you do it, the easier it is to conjure calm through meditation.

Switch Off Phone

Since you live in the digital era, likely, you don’t spend 24 hours straight without being connected to the Internet in some way. Being that accessible is not always a good thing as it can be tiring, and you get information sent to you that you have to process all the time.

Thus, to truly help you relax and get the digital detox you need, you should start by removing easy access to you. The thing that makes you the easiest to access is your phone, so when you’re trying to relax and unwind, you should start by switching off your phone.

When you don’t bring your phone with you, disconnecting can be less strenuous. And then, nothing can disturb your peace since you do not hear any phone notifications.

Do a Physical Activity

For some people, it’s difficult to stop their minds from churning. That’s why they often rely on the digital world to distract them in some way and control their mind from constantly working.

However, instead of doing that, a better way to get your mind off anything is by diverting its attention to something else, such as physical activity.

Your mind will be too busy focusing on the physical activity and the toll it’s taking on your body to be able to concentrate on anything else. Plus, you’ll find that you’re more energetic at the end of every physical activity and you feel happier.

Listen to Music

Listening to music is one way you can relax while still keeping your mind somehow stimulated. You can always buy a physical CD or download music.

If you have a hard time connecting to the music using your phone, consider finding another source of entertainment, like listening to a radio.

Practice Yoga

Yoga is not only something that you do to become more flexible. A crucial part of yoga is stress relief and breathing exercises, contributing to a more peaceful mind.

If you practice yoga regularly, it can serve as your source of daily exercise. It also enables you to stay away from your devices and focus on your mental wellbeing for at least ten minutes.

Refrain From Gadgets Before Bedtime

If there’s any time of the day when you should not be connected to any technology, it should be your bedtime. That’s why you should get into the habit of refraining from gadgets an hour or so before bedtime.

Making this habit will help you fall asleep easier and will make your sleep more restful.

Journal Your Thoughts

None of us take the time out of our days to process what has happened during the said day. Sometimes you need to take a moment to slow down and acknowledge all that has occurred throughout the day.

You can do this by learning how to journal your thoughts. Journaling allows you to process through whatever happened throughout the day. Taking the time to do that will help you unload some mental clutter that might be blocking your mind whether or not you are conscious of it.

Spend Time with Loved Ones

If you haven’t spent some time with the people you love lately, you should change that. Spending time with your loved ones is an excellent way to unplug and relax your mind because there are people there to talk to and stimulate you.

To ensure that you’re spending quality time with your loved ones, make sure you’re not always on your phone. Better yet, don’t pull out the phone at all while you’re spending time with them.

You don’t need to throw away your phone and laptop to unplug. Instead, build an environment wherein you can disconnect from your devices and reconnect with yourself.
