End of Summer Beauty Hacks to Keep Your Skin Glowing Like the Sun

August 17, 2017 , In: Wellness , With: No Comments

As we approach the end of August, it’s hard to believe yet another summer has come and gone so quickly. We’ll miss walking around barefoot, not having to wear coats and driving with the windows down. Perhaps above all, we’ll miss our golden, glowing skin that’s sure to disappear with the lingering summer sun.

But what if you could maintain that gorgeously golden skin well into the winter months? By setting aside some time to focus strictly on self-care — specifically skin care, of course — you can make your summer glow last well past Labor Day. Here are five tips to help you get there.

Exfoliate Your Skin

There’s almost nothing a little exfoliation can’t help. This technique of scrubbing away dead skin cells helps to expose your fresh, flowing skin. You don’t have to only exfoliate your face, either. We recommend applying exfoliating products to your entire body — all you need is an exfoliating cleanser, loofah, body brush or exfoliating gloves, pumice stone and body lotion.

In addition to making your skin look clearer, it makes it feel smoother and softer. Exfoliation also increases blood circulation, which helps you achieve healthy skin, as well. It’s recommended that you exfoliate twice a week as part of a good self-care routine. Don’t forget to moisturize with lotion afterward!

Use Natural Face Masks

Natural beauty masks are becoming a huge fad — you can make them out of almost anything. Who knew honey, bananas, vinegar, milk, oatmeal and mayonnaise could be used to help you maintain your sun-kissed look well into autumn. There are tons of different recipes you can try, and each of them has its own set of benefits that come along with its use.

Many dermatologists even approve of some of these DIY masks. In general, they recommend using them a maximum of once per week. Dermatologists also remind DIY mask-lovers that they’re not face scrubs — gently apply each one to your skin without rubbing at all, leave it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse.

It’s also important to note that although these masks contain ingredients jam-packed with vitamins, you don’t get the same benefits from them when you apply them to your face as when you consume them.

Wash Your Face in the Morning and at Night

When our faces sweat, all kinds of dirt and germs finds its way into our pores. That’s why washing our faces every morning and at night before bed is so crucial to our skin’s health and appearance. When you clean your face, you’re less likely to suffer from break-outs, wrinkles and discoloration in your skin. It’s critical to remove the build-up of dirt, oil and other debris we’ve picked up throughout the day or while we were sleeping.

Washing our face also boosts hydration, which plays a huge role in how your skin looks. When trying to maintain clear skin, this step is crucial. The less acne you have, the more people will notice your sun-kissed glow.

Moisturize Daily

This one might seem obvious, but there’s a significant portion of the population that doesn’t remember to moisturize. There are obvious downfalls to not moisturizing your face daily, such as:

  • More wrinkles
  • The wrinkles you already have will worsen
  • A dull, flaky complexion
  • Your acne will flare up
  • You’re losing a layer of protection

Still, moisturizing is a step of the morning or evening routine that’s easy to forget about or skip over if you’re in a rush. However, if you’re concerned about maintaining your golden-brown glow from the week you spent laying on the beach in July, your face lotion should be your best friend.

Although we’ll soon have to say goodbye to summer, we can hold onto the beautiful, golden-brown glow it left on our skin. Follow these tips during your daily skin care routine, and you’re sure to have your summer skin well into the fall.
